Vacancy: Student Assistant (Programmer)

The Centre for Innovation at Leiden University is looking for a student assistant with programming skills to work along with our developers on various websites and applications targeted toward education. This is a part-time position for 12-16 hours a week for a period of at least 3 months, with a possibility to extend, preferably starting mid-September 2022.

Vacancy Description

The Centre for Innovation is working on multiple websites and applications for the faculties of Leiden University and external partners. As part of this role, you will be working with the developer team to create and improve these applications. You will get a chance to work on innovative projects that use the latest technologies to provide new educational experiences.

Projects range from Virtual and Augmented Reality applications developed using Unity 3D and C# or using WebXR and Javascript. Or assist in the various websites being developed within the Centre using modern web development frameworks such as React.

Who are you?

You are a student at Leiden University with a programming or Computer Science background. You are eager to learn and experiment with new technologies such as Virtual and Augmented Reality. You have GitHub projects that show your programming skills, specifically Object-Oriented Programming knowledge. You like to be challenged and capable of coming up with solutions for unfamiliar problems. You are organised in your work and can work with a team of developers on the same project by writing clean, well-documented code and projects. You like to work with people, but also thrive independently. You set goals and have strong time management skills. We are looking for a student who can allocate 12 hours (spread across the week) combined with their course work for a period of at least 3 months with the possibility of extending.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Write code, fix bugs, implement features and support our developers.
  • Create small innovation projects from start to finish.
  • Implement user interfaces using Unity 3D or modern frontend frameworks such as React.
  • Document code and project architecture.

Requirements

  • Student at Leiden University.
  • Professional proficiency in English.
  • Knowledge of Object Oriented Programming (C# and/or JavaScript).
  • Willing to learn new unfamiliar technologies with a hands-on approach.
  • Excited to work in an international environment.
  • Great team player, with passion, dedication and energy.
  • Knowledge of Unity 3D or 3D modelling software is a plus.
