The way we teach and learn is changing. New technology and knowledge are opening opportunities to make education more diverse, accessible and engaging. Teachers can reach students both further away and in new ways, across a range of media. Students learn with diverse materials, in new formats and with more options to personalise and collaborate on their learning than ever.
How do we bind and take advantage of these developments? We focus on the experiential side of learning.
How Learning Experiences Guide Our Work
Everything we do is about learning, whether building a VR application, designing a course or even programming an algorithm to respond to questions. Our focus areas in this theme are used to inform the work we do developing Digital Solutions for Education & Research, Lifelong Learning and Data & AI for Social Impact. Our learning designers and media experts use innovative and reflective approaches to collaborate with developers, project managers, designers and partners to ensure that learning is always at the forefront of our work. With innovation at the heart of our methodology, we test and construct results-focused learning experiences that are engaging for teachers and learners.
Hybrid & Blended Learning
Digital tools are becoming ubiquitous in education and they offer new ways to reach students and diversify engagement. Hybrid and blended learning find ways to incorporate the opportunities of these digital tools to enhance learning. A vital component of our work in hybrid and blended learning is to make sure that although students are not physically together and may have a significant geographic spread, they are still able to feel a sense of presence, positive social interactions and experience an effective learning experience.
At the CFI, we pilot and test education technologies that contribute to a sense of presence, build community and develop a sense of trust. Whether in person or online, spatial and social interactions are essential for an effective learning experience that includes inclusivity and wellbeing in the classroom.
Stimulating Curiosity in Learning
We work to stimulate curiosity by designing around students’ intrinsic motivation so that learning experiences evoke creative and emotive interactions. We work with educators and students to create unique and experiential learning environments including educational escape rooms, roleplay, serious strategy games and mini playful exercises. By participating in playful and gamified experiences, learners not only benefit from enhanced learning outcomes, but also actively enjoy these unique study modes.
Collaborative learning explores forms of study in which learners dissect problems together and blend their skills and knowledge to tackle them. By collaborating with educators to design digital connections when students are working together, students are able to take on asymmetric roles, build social and collaboration skills and exchange experiences. While this builds class cohesion and contributes to social interactions, it also creatively enhances learning outcomes.
Teaching Methods & Approaches for Engaged Learning
We help teachers weigh up and build diverse pedagogical approaches that create unique learning experiences and pinpoint specific outcomes. When we see an opportunity to enhance creativity, we incorporate digital solutions within the learning environment.
Depending on the goals and topic of your course, there are always creative teaching methods available to enhance teaching. We can help you answer questions such as: What kind of creative methods fit with your course, your students and you? Will you integrate an art project in your final assignment or include outdoor activities to enrich student learning experiences? How can you design your physical classroom to support engaged learning?
