Background

The Global Citizens Meetup will bring together veteran activists, entrepreneurs, students and probably one of the most iconic inspirational speakers in the sustainable development movement: Severn Cullis-Suzuki. At the first Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, Severn, then a 12 year old girl, brought an audience of international politicians and head of states to tears with her moving call for action for the sake of future generations. Her iconic speech is still widely shared on social media today. Severn is one of the members of the historic Earth Charter Commission and active member of the Earth Charter International Council.

The Earth Charter offers an ethical framework for sustainable development. It offers inspiration and practical starting points to work together towards a sustainable future.

This event is part of Centre for Innovation's Future Friday and is organised by Leiden University, Changemakers Lab and Earth Charter.
